USMC MWTC Child Development Center

Location: Coleville, CA
Architect: Taylor Teter Partnership
Square Footage: 10,900 SF
Estimated Cost: $4,500,000

Materials:

The gravity structural system consists of CMU and steel stud bearing walls, with pre-fabricated steel roof joists, and metal structural decking.

The lateral-force resisting system was dictated by the blast design and consisted of steel braced frames in the transverse direction, and CMU and Hardy Frame shear walls in the longitudinal direction with a metal roof deck diaphragm.

Project Highlights:

This Design-Build project consisted of a single story child development center targeting LEED Gold Certification.

This facility houses 96 children daily, ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. The project required special security systems for children and complies with DOD’s Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) criteria.

Due to site constraints the building was located within the Conventional Construction Stand-off Distance and as a result the front elevation had to be designed to resist blast effects.
